Lake Guntersville Fishing Reports

Lake Guntersville Fishing Report - February 27, 2025 - Ben Green

Hey, it's Ben Green checking in! I just wanted to recap the past week on Guntersville.

Wednesday on the River

I launched at Bridgeport and spent the entire day in the rain. Unfortunately, I only managed to catch one keeper. It was a tough bite, but I crossed that spot off the map in preparation for the BFL tournament at Goose Pond on Saturday.

Tournament Recap

Both my co-angler and I were able to catch our limits, which I consider a success in any tournament. I also wanted to share some key takeaways with the Scottsboro family, especially some insights from Bridger Thomas, who helped me dial things in.

We started out trying an A-rig, a chatterbait, and a lipless crankbait, but none of them were producing. The key for us was finding clear water—that transition zone between the muddy main river water and the fresh water flowing in from the banks.

The Winning Baits

What ultimately worked for me was a big-blade, gold-bladed spinnerbait.

  • This bait gave me instant feedback on where it was in the water column.
  • I could keep it up just above underwater weed edges and structure.
  • The fish were hammering it, so I stuck with it and had my limit by 10 AM.

After securing my limit, I switched to a couple of other baits:

  1. No-Jack Jig by Dirty Jigs with a Magnum Trailer – I used this around wood and rock structure. I caught a 10-pounder on Nickajack last year with it around this same time.
  2. Scottsboro Swimbait – My absolute favorite Scottsboro bait! It’s so effective it even has a chunk missing from all the use. I worked this in the backs of creeks where fresh, spring-fed water was coming in. The water was crystal clear, and I was hoping for a big bite while watching the bait work—just like I fished the spinnerbait.

Final Results

I ended the day with 17 pounds, no big kicker, but a great time overall. Both my co-angler and I had limits, so I call that a win.

Thanks to everyone at Scottsboro Tackle Company! Looking forward to the next one. Talk to you all soon!

Lake Guntersville Fishing Report - February 26, 2025 - Alex Davis

Right now, the water temperature is 50°F, up from 44°F just three days ago. Today is Thursday, and with a warming trend underway, temps will continue to rise.

With the warming water, a lot of fish have moved from deeper water into shallower areas. Based on what I’ve seen over the past few days, here are the best baits:

Top Baits Right Now

🎣 Old-School XR50 Raven Red
🎣 Fire Craw Jackhammer with a Freeloader Trailer

The water is very stained where I’ve been fishing, so these high-visibility baits have been key. If the water were clearer, I’d opt for more natural colors. The water is expected to clear up in the next week, so I’d recommend switching to:

  • Green Pumpkin Shad or
  • Royal Shad (for chatterbaits).

Additional Weapons of Choice

🔥 Stealth Rig (316 Head) in Green Shad – This setup has been solid.
🔥 Scottsboro Swimbait in Natty Light – Another go-to option for me.

That’s the game plan for now! I’ll check back in next week with another update. Tight lines! 🎣
